The Glory of the Goal

As the Premiership season draws closer and we have all changed our DT and SC a gazillion times (is gazillion a word? lol), I feel it is time to put our heads down and thumbs up. We are all here for the love of the game and what a damn fine game it is. No where else will you find such skill, pace, kicking ability and the oh so ever beautiful contested mark.
Footy is a game of pride, honour, sportsmanship and above all else it is AUSTRALIAN! aussie aussie aussie oi! oi! oi! .

Back in the day before matches were telecast on television we had the glorious wifi radio. By the way I still to this day own a wind up radio with only AM channels. Sitting around in your backyard with mates, snags on the bbq, pumping up the volume so we did not miss a hand-pass, drop punt, rocket, change-over and most of all the one fine specimen that wins the game - accuracy. Goal kicking in itself is a sport. AFL brings sport to new heights.

All in brawls come and go, as do rule changes. And of course the unforgettable change of style in umpires. The white hats, shirts, pants and the flags waved. No replay on live telecast, just raw umpire skill. Either making or breaking a game. I do however admire the AFL tribunal for honouring the new umpires into the game in pre-season with icky green shirts.

Even when our teams are struggling to win and scores are not what we wish them to be. I can tell you this, each time your team scores a goal no matter how far behind and hopeless the match win seems to be..we all hang in there and cheer on our beloved teams. ROAR ROAR ROAR!!!

You sit beside the opposition barracker's (dunno if that is a word either) they know their team is going to win by the score board, but you see the fear in their eyes especially if your team kicks three in a row. The doubt, the passion drains from the crowd of the opposition even at 40 points ahead. You see it, you feel it, you live it.

There is nothing as grand as a goal kicked by your team.
