Anzac Day Clash

In 1959 if a match between clubs fell on Anzac day it was postponed until the following week. No Anzac Day matches were played if they fell on a Saturday. The very first
match played on Anzac Day was in 1960. Parliament saw the lift of 'No matches on Anzac Day'

This game is considered one of the biggest
matches outside of a Grand Final. Last year we saw Pies vs Bombers in a down pour of rain. I attended this match and with only 4 mins left on the clock most Essendon fans left the stadium.

With only 14 seconds left on the clock to what was assured Pies would take out the win, we saw Essendon kick that glorious last goal to win! (being a pies supporter I do not even like to admit this).

This is the year IS the decider between Collingwood and Essendon. In previous years Pies have racked up 7 wins, Bombers 7 wins. The first game in 1995 was a draw. Since 1995 both teams have gone head to head as what we all now know as the Anzac day Clash. Sometimes drawing crowds bigger than a Grand Final match.

Anzac day is only a little over a month away and rest assured I will be there to see it played out.
For love, glory and in the spirit of all men who faught in the war, the Pies will do you proud this year :)
